Just listened to Radio 4, an interview with a BNP leader, ex NF leader. Was asked if he renounced the NF's denial of the Holocaust. He said, and I paraphrase- The Jews were undoubtedly treated awfully during WW2, but there are different accounts, by different historians, about the number which were killed, and I'm not a historian. Then he was asked- Do you believe that non-white people are genetically inferior, and less intelligent, than white people? He replied- There are arguments from educational experts and psychologists about definite genetic differences between races, and I'm not not an educational expert.

A BNP leader who cannot bring himself acknowledge the holocaust and the equality of human beings.

British society must be about more than being out for yourself and your own. It must be about more than money grabbing, take what you can get. The MPs who have abused expenses have shown exactly the opposite of this. Right from the beginning of this scandal I've been arguing the other side, about the unjust pay, and the need for decent second homes. But as scumbag parties gain support, members, and quite likely EU funding, my sympathy drains away.

Living and working in British society must be about far more than the material, it must be about something greater, something more worthwhile. We should inspire this view in every British working person. Even more so in those who work in our public services. And most of all it should be shown by those with greatest influence in shaping society. If Labour MPs don't oppose the Thatcherite loadamoney mentality, who the hell will? If the enquiry shows up who the Labour pocket-stuffers are, I hope Brown will eat them for breakfast, and show that they do not represent the party.

Door to door on Thursday, god help us.

Fair point and you may or may not be right. But the mode of argument is not going to engage this guy. It would have finished the conversation before it had started- he sees his experience as being more valuable than any stats we have to offer. We've got to get this right before it spreads even further. Listening is the first step.

It's easy to influence someone not in the know about issues. A few figures and a couple of extreme examples is all it takes. But it's easy to get stats to say whatever you want. The wider picture is that the number of immigrants coming in and taking "our jobs" is much less than we think - the man's frustrations are easily answered by an exaggerated common enemy. Do you think sometimes it's easier to blame someone else ...?
